Six Pack Abs Workout

You have probably heard the expression “six pack abs” on many occasions. It may have been shortened to simply “six pack.” However, the meaning is still the same. This expression refers to having a lean, flat, muscular stomach, and both men and women seem to want it. The real question to answer is whether this is even possible for everyone.

Some books and DVDs with exercise regimens that will promise you anything will say that there is no reason that anyone who is willing to work can’t have this muscular midsection. This is not necessarily true. The truth is that six pack abs are a bit harder to attain than these money makers would have you believe. These are really a pre-cellulite phenomenon. People in their teens and 20’s can achieve this, but it gets harder as you get older, as there is more subcutaneous body. However, if you have the right genetics and follow a strict program, you may have a shot at it, even if you are in your 30’s or 40’s.

It is a bit more difficult for women to be able to sport six pack abs. A female’s body stores more fat than men because they are made for bearing and nourishing babies. It is also true that men usually lose weight faster when they are exercising regularly. Experts have found that it can even be a bit unhealthy for women to lower their body fat enough to have abs this lean, as it can even stop their menstrual cycles.

It may be better to not aim for such extreme results, but there are some very important reasons to work on your midsection. The abdominal core muscles make the torso stronger, create better posture, help reduce lower back pain, and lessen the risk of injury. Abdominal workouts can also make other areas of the body more fit, and help you if you play different sports, or engage in running exercise.

So, even though you may not be meant to have six pack abs, there is no reason that you cannot indulge in a bit of abdominal training. You can still make your stomach flatter and tighter with proper nutrition and a good exercise program. It is a wise idea to look into several of these programs before choosing one to try. If you are able, speak to a professional trainer who should be able to help you choose and implement just the right abdominal work out for you.

Six Pack Abs Workout

Six pack abs is definitely not something you can order in, take out of a box and put on for show. You need some extensive workout sessions in order to achieve that sculpted look, and these workout sessions would take both dedication and discipline. One of the most prevalent myths regarding six pack abs is that abdominal workouts (like crunches and horizontal leg lifts) are enough to get the desired outcome. This is rarely the case. Yes, abdominal workouts do help, and these are in fact essential; but subscribing only to the exercises will not get you that six pack abs in a hurry. If you want faster, more permanent results, here is one solid tip on how to get that musculature you have always wanted.

Lose the fat! Nothing can hinder your goal of acquiring those six pack abs, than that bouncing, jiggling lifesaver around your midsection. The thing is: you can hardly ever see a person with a perfectly sculpted tummy section carrying excess weight in the other parts of the body. More often than not, that sculpted abs is matched with a sculpted physique too. In order to build up musculature, it is essential that the existing fats in the body must be melted away first. Instead of going for the drastic (e.g. liposuction, obesity weight loss surgery, tummy tuck); try going for the organic. This means subscribing to a healthier diet, and exercising to achieve over all fitness.

If possible, try to get a dietician or nutritionist approved diet. Never (and we can not say this often enough) subscribe to the fad diets that are coming out, season by season. These fad diets may help you shed some serious pounds in the shortest time possible, but at the cost of putting your health in danger. Some of these diets are so extreme that your internal organs, particularly your heart, your liver and the muscles may not be able to keep up. If you want that six pack abs, you need to keep your internal organs healthy and your muscles in peak order. If you stick to diets that leave you weak or feeling ill, you are effectively throwing out your chances of getting that six pack abs. After all, how can you possibly exercise when your muscles (or the rest of your body, for that matter) are not cooperating with you? Stick to diets that promote overall well-being, preferably those that allow you to eat foods from all the basic food groups.

Choose exercise regimens that promoted whole body workout. Again, it is essential to have a sustainable abdominal muscle workout regimen – but this should not be the only thing you have on your agenda. Having a total body workout means that you can get rid of excess fats faster, which should make it easier for you to work those abs.

Diet and exercise should work hand in hand. Always make sure that both are being kept at a constant schedule. Exercise at a time that you find most convenient for your current lifestyle. However, make sure that you have slow carbohydrate burning meals before your workouts, and eat fast carbohydrate burning meals afterwards. This should help sustain the nutrients that your body needs. Stick to your allotted portions so as not to increase your body fat.

Six Pack Abs Workout

(c) 2008 Ed Scow

I have logged thousands of personal training sessions over my career and everybody wants to know more about abs workouts and abs exercises.

My clients want to know how to lose stomach fat and get a six-pack, or at the very least they just want to lose stomach fat so they have a firm abs that look good in their clothes (and naked).

I can’t blame them. Who doesn’t want a nice looking midsection? Who doesn’t want to get firm abs or get lean enough they can say they have a six-pack.

The problem is that 99% of them all have the same misconceptions about abs workouts and abs exercises and how to really lose stomach fat and get firm abs.

I’ve narrowed down the mistakes, myths and misconceptions surrounding abs workouts and abs exercises to my top 3.

These 3 abs workout mistakes are made by just about everyone I’ve ever trained, designed a program for, or consulted.

Are you making these same mistakes?

1) Spending too much time doing crunches – I’m just going to come right out and say it…you don’t need to do crunches to get six pack abs and you sure as heck don’t need to do crunches to lose stomach fat or even get a firm abs.

Crunches simply don’t work enough muscle and don’t burn enough fat calories to be thought of as a worthwhile exercise in order to lose stomach fat, let alone get firm abs or a six-pack.

Spending 20 minutes a day doing hundreds (or thousands) of crunches is like electing Big Bird or Elmo president.

Sure they may sound good and have all the answers, but it just doesn’t make much sense electing a puppet to such a high office (sorry, that was my attempt at a joke).

Doing hundreds, or even thousands, of crunches will strengthen your abdomen, that’s for sure, but what does it matter if you still have a layer of flabby goo covering up all the hard work?

Instead you need to focus on full body workouts and full body abs exercises in order to lose stomach fat fast and get the firm, toned stomach or six pack abs you’re after.

Take for instance this abs workout, using only full body abs exercises, I designed for a client. Do this mini-circuit before your regular workout, when you’re still fresh, so you can really hit your abs hard.

1A) Dumbbell Overhead Squat – 10 reps

1B) Mountain Climbers – 30 seconds

1C) Reverse Plank – 30 seconds

Do that in a circuit format, resting 20 seconds after the final exercise before repeating it again 2 or 3 times. Do that for a few week and you’ll definitely see a difference in your abs and you will lose stomach fat.

2) Throwing all your hard work out the door by eating poorly – What good does it do to work so hard in your fat loss workouts only to come home, or leave your home gym, and eat junk?

What sense does it make that after all your hard work, you ruin it with poor eating habits on a daily basis? This is quite possibly one of the dumbest things you could do. I don’t mean to be rude, I’m just trying to put it bluntly.

If you want to lose stomach fat and get firm abs, or even six-pack abs, you need to clean up your diet and stop eating so poorly. You need to quit eating processed junk found in boxes and bags like crackers and chips, stop eating things like bagels and processed breads and start eating more fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, nuts, legumes and healthy fats.

You also need to start eating multiple times throughout the day, and this especially means eating breakfast. It also means cutting out the late night snacking and cutting down on alcohol.

You know what to cut out, so do it.

Remember what your goals are. You want to lose stomach fat and you want to get firm abs. Eat like it!

3) Not actively flexing, or bracing, your abdominals in every exercise – It’s sad that I have to say this, but all too often, people don’t actively flex their abdominals while doing an abs exercise.

I don’t know why. You’d think that because you’re doing an abs exercise that you’d be flexing your abs hard every repetition, but too many people just go through the motions and to way too fast.

You need to slow down and actively flex your abdominals when you’re doing an abs exercise. And for every exercise that’s not an abs exercise, you need to brace them like somebody is about to punch you in the stomach.

Doing so will ensure that you learn to “control” your abs and make sure that when you do lose stomach fat that you’ll have a defined and toned midsection worthy of praise.

I also want you to think of it this way…every exercise should be an abs exercise. If you brace your abs during every single exercise in your fat loss workout, you’ll essentially turn every single exercise into an abs exercise. Doing a chest press, brace your abs. Doing a lunge, brace your abs. Every single exercise you do, whether you’re working your abs specifically or not, should be turned into an abs exercise.

If you stop making these vital abs workout and abs exercise mistakes, and start doing full body workouts with full body abs exercises, I guarantee that you’ll begin to lose stomach fat and get firm abs (and maybe even that sought after six-pack) in no time.

Six Pack Abs Workout

Everyone wonders how to get a six pack abs within a week. Some people need it for showing it in a high school reunion or in a beach by next week. Good luck for those who are looking for a process on how to get a six pack in a week because the truth is you need to have dedication and consistent routine in order to build the perfect abs.

You will be disappointed in discovering that getting a six pack is impossible to achieve in a week. The fact is that in order to accomplish this quickly it will be incredibly difficult.

You have to make it large enough to be visibly seen and your body fat should be limited.

In short, while building the size of the abdominals you are also cutting the fat that covers them. Everyone has a six pack under the layers of fat in your midsection. Your goal is to show them up. It is impossible for you to have a six pack in a week if you are 20 pounds overweight and out of shape. First, you should lose weight at the midsection. While doing this you should also perform exercises to build up the muscles.

This process can be difficult for those who are out of shape. But if you really take time and have a regular routine then achieving a sexy stomach is not that incredibly difficult. All you need to do is watch your diet like eliminating fat-causing foods. While having a proper diet, doing aerobic activity in your workouts can you help achieve sexy abs. You should also insert abdominal exercises each week to see the best results. This is a plan for long term results that can be obtained and sustained and not only for getting a six pack in a week.

One must set his/her mind that you will just get disappointed if your goal is to strive to have that six pack in a week since this is really impossible. It takes a routine to develop the muscles in your abs. These muscles can be achieved in consistently eliminating the body fat and building abdominal muscles and the result is a flat stomach.

Therefore, eliminating body fat and building abdominal muscles are ingredients to sexy abs. Not all routines are equal but the combination of these two important ingredients can get you the abs you want.
